<p>DC police heroes win domestic violence award</p><p> police officers who saved the life of a domestic violence victim by using their training and a passerby's belt.</p><p>Trx Machine The officers prevented the stabbing victim from bleeding out from her femoral artery by using the belt as a tourniquet.</p><p> DC SAFE, a nonprofit that helps survivors of domestic violence, saw our story and decided to give them a prestigious award for their heroism. At the group's annual reception Thursday, Officers Derek Dude; Justin Roth and Joseph Devlin jointly received the "MPD Officer of the Year Award for Outstanding Protection of Victims of Domestic Violence."</p><p> Since our story first aired, the Metropolitan Police Department has started distributing tourniquets to officer. Police Chief Cathy Lanier told Fox 5 that this distribution of the medical devices is progressing quickly.</p><p> "We are distributing kits as we get them in as they are on back order from the vendors. However, we have over 2400 members who have received the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care training," said Chief Lanier.
